At MeetingPackage, we believe that great stories start with passion and a touch of luck. We are thrilled to introduce Michael (Mike) Walker, our latest addition to the team. He brings with him a wealth of experience, a love for hospitality, and an insatiable curiosity about innovation.
From Scrubbing Dishes to Scaling Hospitality Business
Mike’s journey in the hospitality industry began quite literally from the ground up—scrubbing dishes in a local restaurant at the tender age of 13. This early start wasn’t just a job but the beginning of a lifelong love affair with hospitality. “I wouldn’t say I started right at the bottom, but close enough,” Mike laughs. “I was driving by a restaurant with my dad, saw a sign for a dishwasher job, and decided to give it a shot.”
Since a young age, Mike has always displayed a warm and hospitable smile.
From polishing cutlery faster than anyone else to quickly moving up the ranks to a chef, Mike’s dedication and passion were evident. His journey didn’t stop in the kitchen. By 18, he was bartending and, soon after, managing the restaurant. “I fell in love with every aspect of hospitality,” he recalls. “It’s a real people industry, and that’s what I love the most.”
Transitioning from Legal Studies to Hospitality Management
Interestingly, Mike’s educational path led him to a law degree. However, the allure of hospitality proved too strong. “I thought I wanted to be a lawyer for all the wrong reasons,” he admits. “I tried it for a year but missed the dynamic, people-focused hospitality environment.” This realization propelled him back into the industry, where he rapidly advanced from managing restaurants to becoming the Director of Food and Beverage and eventually a General Manager of renowned hotels.
Innovating Hospitality with Tech
Mike’s journey in the hospitality industry isn’t just a tale of climbing the career ladder—it's also a story of globe-trotting adventure. Among his many career highlights is when he ventured to Albania to open the country's first Hilton, proudly adding country number 108 to Hilton’s impressive portfolio. "From the UK to the US via Albania, I’ve always loved to travel," Mike shares.
Opening the first Hilton in Tirana, Albania in 2018
"Opening the Hilton in Albania was a unique and rewarding experience. It was exciting to bring such a recognised brand to a new market and see the positive impact on the local hospitality industry." His passion for travel and exploration not only broadens his horizons but also enriches his approach to hospitality, making him a true citizen of the world and a valuable asset to MeetingPackage.
After years in hotel operations, Mike pivoted significantly into hospitality technology. “Moving to the US opened up new opportunities,” he explains. “I’ve been in Hospitality Tech for the last six or seven years, always with a hospitality focus. It’s an exciting space, and I love how it allows us to disrupt and innovate the industry.”
Mike’s move to MeetingPackage feels like a natural progression. “MeetingPackage’s mission to make booking meeting and event venues as easy as booking a hotel room online is brilliant. It’s such a simple yet groundbreaking idea,” he says. “The chance to work with a visionary like Joonas and be part of such an innovative company was something I couldn’t pass up.”
A True Hospitality Leader

What makes Mike stand out is not just his impressive resume but his leadership philosophy. “I’ve done every job I ask my team to do. I believe in leading by example,” he states. This grounded approach, combined with his extensive experience, makes him an excellent fit for our team. Mike understands the importance of staying calm under pressure and the power of positivity. “Your energy spreads to your team. If you’re positive and calm, they will be too,” he says.
A Texan at Heart with British Roots
While Mike is originally from the UK, he has embraced his new home in Texas with open arms. “I’ve been here for nearly six years now and love it. I even have a Toyota 4Runner, but no cowboy hat or boots yet,” he chuckles.
Living in Texas with a last name of Walker obviously creates an association with the TV show character Walker the Texas Ranger, portrayed by none other than Chuck Norris. Walker is famous for his martial arts moves against thugs.
Even though Mike abandoned his crime-fighting career, he feels a connection to the Texas Rangers. "I did Karate when I was a youngster. But I only got the yellow belt, but I did craft a bit of a roundhouse kick."
So basically, you could defeat Chuck Norris? "Yeah. Any day, any day."
Watch out, Chuck!
Despite his managerial duties, Mike still loves to cook. “I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, especially with Indian cuisine and making a good Texas chilli,” he shares. His culinary journey, from dishwashing to creating tasty dishes, continues to be a passion.
Looking Ahead
As Mike steps into his new role at MeetingPackage, his immediate priorities are clear. “I’m focused on growth and building strong partnerships. The US market is crucial, and we need to crack it to make a significant impact. It’s challenging, but I’m confident we’re on the right track,” he says.
Mike’s enthusiasm and strategic vision are exactly what we need as we continue to innovate and expand. His ability to connect with people, understand the intricacies of the hospitality industry, and leverage technology for better solutions is invaluable.
We are excited to have Mike on board and look forward to achieving great things together. Welcome to the team, Mike! Here’s to a future of endless possibilities and shared successes.
